Microsoft is ramping up efforts to improve Windows 11 following sustained user criticism around performance, design, and overall consistency. The company has now outlined a broader initiative aimed at refining the experience and restoring trust among users.

According to Windows Central, the effort is being led by Pavan Davuluri, with several key figures across Microsoft contributing to the initiative. Scott Hanselman is helping drive improvements in Windows quality, while Clint Rutkas is actively engaging with developers to gather feedback and ideas for future updates.

New Team Focuses on Windows Apps and Experience

A major part of this push involves strengthening the Windows app ecosystem. Rudy Huyn is forming a new team dedicated to improving Windows apps, with a strong emphasis on product thinking and user experience rather than platform-specific limitations.

Huyn brings extensive experience in Windows app development and previously worked at Dropbox. Microsoft is also actively recruiting developers to support this initiative, encouraging candidates from all platforms to apply and share their portfolios.

Performance and Feature Changes Planned

Alongside internal restructuring, Microsoft is planning several changes aimed at improving how Windows 11 performs and feels in daily use.

The company is reportedly looking to optimize performance in a way similar to its past “Project 20/20” efforts. At the same time, it may scale back certain Copilot integrations that users have found unnecessary, while also introducing more flexibility for Taskbar customization.

Focus Shifts Toward Rebuilding Trust

The broader goal behind these changes is to address ongoing concerns and deliver a more consistent, polished Windows experience. Over time, criticism around Windows 11 has grown, particularly regarding responsiveness, UI decisions, and system cohesion.

Microsoft’s renewed focus suggests a shift toward listening more closely to user feedback while prioritizing meaningful improvements. However, the success of this effort will largely depend on how effectively the company can execute these plans and assemble the right talent to support them.
